Coroner: Turpin shot himself to death (AP)
A coroner's report says former Kentucky basketball star Melvin Turpin died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The report Friday gave no other information about the investigation, including whether Turpin left a suicide note. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn had said Thursday that Turpin took his own life in his Lexington house, but didn't say how.

Final Four most outstanding player Kyle Singler and Duke teammate Nolan Smith are among 20 players on a select team of college players that will practice against the U.S. national team. Army-Penn to play before Duke-Butler (AP)
Army and Penn will play in the first game of a college basketball doubleheader Dec. 4 before Duke faces Butler in a rematch of last season's NCAA championship game. The Army-Penn game at Izod Center starts at noon. Duke-Butler follows, a marquee matchup announced in May. The Blue Devils beat the Bulldogs 61-59 for their fourth national title.
S. Florida's Heath gets 3-year extension (AP)
South Florida basketball coach Stan Heath has agreed to a three-year contract extension after leading the Bulls to their most successful season since entering the Big East. USF went 20-13 on the way to earning a spot in the National Invitation Tournament. In three seasons under Heath, the Bulls have a 41-54 record.
UConn hires Ollie, Miller as assistants (AP)
Connecticut basketball coach Jim Calhoun is turning to two old friends as he attempts to steer his program through an NCAA recruiting scandal. The school announced Friday that it hired Glen Miller and Kevin Ollie to fill the vacancies left by the resignations of staff members accused of lying to NCAA investigators.
