Spoonhour on list for lung transplant (AP)
Charlie Spoonhour, the popular basketball coach known for his homespun humor and success on the court, is on the waiting list for a lung transplant. Spoonhour's son, Jay Spoonhour, told the Springfield News-Leader on Tuesday that his 71-year-old father began coughing and feeling ill about a month ago.
Michigan State says G Allen won't return (AP)
Michigan State says guard Chris Allen won't return to the basketball team for the 2010-11 season. Coach Tom Izzo says Allen will miss what would have been his senior season. Allen started 27 games and averaged 8 points a game last season for the Spartans, who made it the NCAA tournament's Final Four.
UNLV G Willis pleads not guilty (AP)
A lawyer entered a not guilty plea on behalf of UNLV basketball player Tre'Von Willis, who faces a felony charge stemming from allegations that Willis choked his girlfriend during an argument. Attorney Steve Wolfson appeared Tuesday on the 22-year-old Willis' behalf at an arraignment in Henderson Justice Court on a felony domestic battery-strangulation charge.
Former UCLA star Edney joins staff (AP)
Tyus Edney is returning to UCLA. He is joining the Bruins as director of men's basketball operations. Coach Ben Howland announced the hiring on Monday. Edney is best known for his full-court dash with 4.8 seconds remaining to score the game-winning layup against Missouri in the second round of the 1995 NCAA tournament.
Kentucky G Dodson won't play this season (AP)
Kentucky coach John Calipari says junior guard Darnell Dodson will not play for the Wildcats this season. Calipari posted on his Facebook page Sunday night that while Dodson is academically eligible, he won't be with the team when it travels to Canada for a series of exhibition games later this month.
Huggins' fall blamed on medication (AP)
West Virginia University says basketball coach Bob Huggins' rib-breaking fall occurred because medication taken on an empty stomach left him lightheaded. President James Clements and Athletic Director Oliver Luck told the Charleston Daily Mail that Huggins stood too quickly, tripped and fell into a table in his Las Vegas hotel room last week.
Arizona forced to vacate 19 wins (AP)
The NCAA added to self-imposed sanctions by Arizona's men's basketball program on Thursday, vacating 19 wins from the 2007-08 season and removing an additional scholarship for violations involving Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson. The university announced its sanctions in February, including the loss of a scholarship for 2011-12 and numerous cutbacks in recruiting visits over the next two...
WVU coach Huggins released from hospital (AP)
West Virginia University says men's basketball coach Bob Huggins has been released from a Las Vegas hospital. The university says Huggins was released Wednesday. He had been hospitalized since breaking seven ribs in a fall in his hotel room on Friday while in Nevada on a recruiting trip.
Northwestern's Coble to leave program (AP)
Kevin Coble, one of Northwestern's top players, has chosen to skip his senior season after sitting out with a broken left foot last year. The team's leading scorer and rebounder for three years, Coble was injured in a preseason practice and had surgery. In a statement, he says his rehabilitation "is most important," and he will continue to follow the schedule set by his surgeon.
Drexel players suspended after charges (AP)
Drexel University athletic officials indefinitely suspended two basketball players charged in an armed robbery at a fellow student's apartment last week. Starting point guard Jamie Harris and backup forward Kevin Phillip turned themselves in to police Monday to face robbery, theft and weapons charges.
Pac-10 to soon become Pac-12 (AP)
For years people in the Pac-10 -- from players to fans -- have complained about a lack of recognition and a so-called East Coast bias that caused the conference to be under-appreciated nationally. Commissioner Larry Scott, who grew up in New York on Long Island, decided that instead of complaining it was time for the league to do something about it.
Landesberg signs with Maccabi Haifa (AP)
Israeli basketball team Maccabi Haifa has signed former Virginia guard Sylven Landesberg to a two-year contract. Maccabi Haifa owner Jeffrey Rosen said Sunday that signing Landesberg is a "great achievement" for the Super League team. The 6-foot-6-inch guard averaged 16.9 points and 5.5 rebounds at Virginia between 2008 and 2010, and represented the Sacramento Kings at the NBA Summer...
Shawne Williams, ex-teammate arrested (AP)
Former University of Memphis basketball players Shawne Williams and Kareem Cooper have been arrested after police found marijuana and a loaded gun in the car they were traveling in. Memphis police say they pulled over the Dodge Charger on Friday because Williams wasn't wearing a seat belt. He was charged with driving on a suspended license.
Coaches to be done with Pump Foundation (AP)
The National Association of Basketball Coaches said Friday this will be the last year its members can have financial relationships with the Harold Pump Foundation, a charity run by basketball power brokers David and Dana Pump. The brothers are well known in college basketball circles, sponsoring camps and summer leagues.
Ex-Hall coach Gonzalez pleads not guilty (AP)
Former Seton Hall basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez pleaded not guilty Wednesday to shoplifting a satchel at an upscale shopping mall last month. Gonzalez spoke during the five-minute arraignment only to verify his address in Harrison, N.Y. His attorney, Anna Cominsky, entered the plea on his behalf. Neither commented after the proceeding.
Haden to replace Garrett as USC AD (AP)
Southern California is cleaning house in its tarnished athletic department, throwing out much of what got the school in severe NCAA trouble. Athletic director Mike Garrett and Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy are the first two items to go. UIC coach Collins to retire in August (AP)
Jimmy Collins will retire in August after 14 seasons at UIC, a run that had him as the school's all-time wins leader and resulted in three NCAA tournament berths. Collins, who had a 218-208 record with the Flames, announced his decision Tuesday. Athletic director Jim Schmidt said he will conduct a national search for the next coach.

New Mexico coach Steve Alford said he had opportunities to leave this spring after the most successful season in school history. Forget it. He wants to be a Lobo. Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey will wait to deal with the arrests of Tim Abromaitis and Eric Atkins on charges of underage drinking. "It's handled downtown. Southern California was slapped with a two-year bowl ban last month. Now North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida are acknowledging that the NCAA has taken a look at their athletic departments.
